Water Pump Working Principle:
1, The water pump pushes coolant from the radiator through the coolant system, into the engine and back around to the radiator. The heat that the coolant picked up from the engine is transferred to the air at the radiator.
2, Using a contaminated, incompatible coolant or mixing different formulations leads to premature water pump failure. Contaminants (e.g. abrasive particles and engine oil) scratch the internal mechanical seal or affect the pump's wear resistance.
3, The average lifespan of a water pump is 60,000 to 90,000 miles.
4, Most diesel engines don't have a water pump maintenance interval. The water pump is expected to last the life of the engine under normal use. However, many of these engines don't see what's considered “normal use”. And many see far more than the expected mileage on the engine.
4, Because fuel tends to dissolve the gaskets and other materials used in water pumps, water pumps cannot be used to transfer diesel and diesel pumps cannot be used to transfer water. It is recommended that you use the correct pump for your appliafter market dieselion.
5, Cost for replacement of the water pump vary greatly depending on the size, make, and age of the car, though you can expect to pay anywhere from $310 to $730 total. Expect to pay more at a dealership or with certain types of vehicles. Parts alone (water pump and additional parts) will run about $70 to $400.
